When Do UK and US School Holidays Overlap at Walt Disney World?
If you’re planning a trip to Walt Disney World and wondering when the parks might be busiest, understanding how UK and US school holidays overlap can be incredibly helpful. While UK families often focus on half terms and school breaks, the majority of Disney World visitors come from the United States, where school calendars can be quite different.
Here’s a quick comparison of the main holiday periods:
February Half Term (Mid-February)
While not as busy as Easter or summer, UK half term can align with the US Presidents’ Day holiday. This often creates a noticeable spike in attendance and higher resort occupancy. May Half Term
May Half Term is often considered one of the best UK school holiday periods for visiting Walt Disney World. While it can occasionally overlap with the US Memorial Day holiday at the end of May, the impact on crowds is typically much smaller than during Easter, summer, or Christmas.
Easter Holidays (March–April)
Easter is one of the busiest times of the year at Walt Disney World. UK Easter holidays often coincide with US Spring Breaks, bringing large numbers of families to the parks. Expect longer queues, higher accommodation costs, and busy dining reservations.
Summer Holidays (Late July–August)
This is one of the longest periods of sustained crowds. UK summer holidays overlap with the latter part of the US summer break, making July and August particularly busy. The combination of school holidays and summer weather means this is a peak travel season.
Surprisingly if you visit mid to late august you can avoid a lot of the American school holidays!
October Half Term (Late October)
Crowds can increase during October half term, particularly when it overlaps with US Fall Breaks and Halloween events. However, the impact is generally less significant than Easter, summer, or Christmas.
Christmas Holidays (Late December–Early January)
The Christmas and New Year period is typically the busiest time of the entire year at Walt Disney World. With both UK and US schools on holiday, crowd levels reach their annual peak, especially from Christmas Day through New Year’s Day.
Many of these holidays include one of the EPCOT festivals which can enhance your trip.

Final Thoughts
Having visited Walt Disney World during all of these UK school holiday periods, my personal favourite is May Half Term. It offers a fantastic balance of warm weather, manageable crowd levels, and the convenience of travelling during a school break. While no holiday period is completely crowd-free, May tends to feel much more relaxed than Easter, summer, or Christmas.

If I could choose one period to avoid, it would be Christmas and New Year. The festive atmosphere is undeniably magical, with incredible decorations, special entertainment, and holiday treats throughout the parks. However, this comes with some of the highest crowd levels and prices of the entire year. For me, the extra crowds often outweigh the festive benefits.
Of course, every family has different priorities, but if you’re looking for the best all-round experience during a UK school holiday, May Half Term would be my top recommendation, with Christmas best saved for those who don’t mind sharing the magic with a lot more people!
