✨What to Expect When Arriving at Orlando International Airport (MCO) from the UK

Flying to Orlando for your holiday? Orlando International Airport (MCO) is a major hub for UK travellers heading to Florida, but if you’ve never been before, it can be a bit overwhelming.

Here’s everything you need to know about arriving at MCO from the UK—from clearing immigration to getting to your hotel in style.

✨Disembarking the Plane

Once you’ve landed, you’ll be directed to the terminal via a jet bridge or sometimes buses (for some of the more distant gates).

Most UK flights arrive at Terminal A or B (courtesy baggage transfer was available when we flew with Virgin Atlantic. Our luggage disappeared for an hour so it may not always be worth it! The only reason it might be easier is when you have large amounts of luggage if your travelling with kids, just make sure you know EXACTLY where it’s going to reappear.

Prepare for your passport and ESTA check right away

✨Clearing Immigration & Customs

This can be one of the longest parts of the arrival process, but don’t worry—it’s all part of the process when flying internationally.

✨What you’ll need:

Passport (must be valid for at least 6 months after arrival)

✨Immigration Process:

  1. Head to immigration control (you’ll see signs directing you).

  2. UK citizens can use the Global Entry kiosks (if enrolled) for quicker processing. You will be guided to the family lane if you are flying with children.

  3. Have your documents ready for the officer’s inspection. You will need your finger prints taken at this point, totally normal for adults.

  4. After the inspection, you’ll head to Baggage Claim.

Tip: There can we long lines, especially during peak seasons, so try to be patient! The family lane will help with this.

✨Baggage Claim

After clearing immigration, you’ll head to the baggage claim area.

  • Baggage Belt: Check the screens for your flight number and baggage carousel info. Oversized items (prams, travel cots, car seats) will often appear separately to your luggage so don’t panic if you don’t see it on the carousel. Just look for the oversized luggage sign.

  • Re-check bags (if flying with a connecting flight from MCO)

Tip: If you’ve been travelling with little ones, bring some snacks or entertainment while you wait.

✨Customs Screening

Once you’ve collected your luggage, you’ll head through customs.

  • Declare items: If you have anything to declare (like certain foods, plants, or expensive items), you’ll need to do so at this stage.

  • For non-declared items, you might be asked additional questions or undergo a search.

Tip: Most meat and dairy items are prohibited so just double check before you travel and keep it in mind you may receive a fine if you don’t declare it , and it will be taken off you if you do declare it.

✨Getting to Your Hotel or Resort
